Education underpins all of Haller’s programmes, as we teach poor communities to build sustainable lives for themselves. Haller also runs the award-winning Nguuni Education Centre, which supports 30,000 children from the slums around Mombasa each year.
Haller runs the Nguuni Education Centre, which is home to Kenya’s first free children’s library. It was awarded Best Community Library by the Kenyan National Library Service and the Goethe-Institut in 2010 and it came second in 2011. Haller's education centre supports children from 63 different schools.

In the rural communities Haller supports, children rarely go to school. Haller helps these communities set up their own schools, to give children basic education, which is vital to help them escape a life of poverty. Not only the children benefit! Parents can also request specific lessons, for instance in adult literacy.

Haller runs fun classes that encourage children to take an interest in the environment from a young age. These are held at our Education Centre and at the rural community schools we support. Classes include watching films, bird-watching, tours of Haller’s wildlife sanctuary and other educational activities.
Haller’s health workshops provide people with basic knowledge on how to prevent diseases such as HIV/Aids, diarrhoea and malaria. These workshops are held weekly at the communities immediately before the doctor’s consultation sessions. New health educational films have recently been produced to help attract a broader audience.

Dr. Haller has inspired many young academics and scientists to work alongside him, resulting in a wealth of specialist research that has developed over the past 50 years. Our research library houses expert knowledge on crocodiles, natural pesticides, animal husbandry, biogas and so much more.

Haller's farmer training gives people practical skills that enable them to grow enough food to eat, and even a surplus to sell. We also educate farmers about nutrition, and encourage them to plant a variety of crops, which is good for the soil and for their health.
