Phase 2

Education, Enterprise & Advanced Farmer Training

Once tangible impact has been achieved in Stage 1, Haller works collaboratively with partners to build on their successes to date, enabling long-lasting and meaningful change.

Haller’s core projects are enhanced by customisable add-ons, offering a range of advanced farmer training & sustainable livelihoods opportunities, income generation and skills development. These add-ons are entirely dependent on the changing needs of the communities we support and the aspirations of our partners organisations.

All of Haller’s programmes include an element of income generation. As well as providing much needed income, this financial incentive also serves to reinforce positive behaviour change, making communities less likely to reverse back to less sustainable lifestyles.

Education & Enterprise

Guided by Dr. Haller’s innovative thinking, we improve health, expand education and equip people with the know-how to start and run businesses that power economies while protecting the environment.

Haller Education Graphic

Based on 50 years of practical field research, education underpins everything we do. We educate young and old in understanding healthy life skills for mind, body and environment, teaching them that there is economy in ecology.

  • In addition to adult focused farmer training, Haller also offers educational programs for children and young people. We teach children their ABC’s, as well as farmer training, using old tires, they plant vegetables to take home to their parents.

  • Not only do we inspire young people to grow crops, but we teach them about nutrition, and show them how to eat a well balanced, varied diet on the crops available.

  • We ensure safe spaces to learn, teach about the importance of the environment and host environmental activities. We run film clubs, and bird-watching or wildlife activities.

  • Where available, Haller will assist in the establishment of children’s libraries and IT suites for enhanced learning opportunities. We run ICT training classes for young people so they can find employment at the end of their studies and can access first class training programmes from international universities online.

All of Haller’s programmes include an element of income generation. As well as providing much needed income, this financial incentive also serves to reinforce positive behaviour change, making communities less likely to reverse back to less sustainable lifestyles.

  • We support communities to set up registered self-help groups so they can set up community savings accounts.

  • We provide seed capital to help known community members get started in small businesses, and then give them training in basic skills such as bookkeeping to help them manage their money effectively.

  • Any profits derived from the activities can then be fed back into the community to further improve education and health services.
