The Addax and Oryx Foundation
In January 2016 The Addax and Oryx Foundation awarded a grant of $106,400 for Haller to support subsistence farmers living without access to basic necessities in two communities of Kenya’s Kisauni district.
With this grant, Haller was able to provide farmer training to improve their crop yields and create infrastructure which would provide uncontaminated water for farming, drinking and households. Following the initiative in 2018, 45% of the farmers trained recorded a regular surplus (despite severe droughts) and were able to sell beyond satisfying household dietary requirements. Both communities also gained a well, an eco-toilet as well as rain-fed dams which in 2018 collectively supported over 200 families. In addition to this, this funding empowered the communities to repair a truck, granting them access to welfare support packages by their local government.
